The Game Boy was Nintendo's first handheld console. The Game Boy was immensely popular, selling about 118,690,000 units worldwide. It was released in Japan on April 29, 1989, in North America in August 1989, and in Europe in 1990. It was discontinued in 1998, the same year its successor, the Game Boy Color, was released.
